Program Name: Carpentry / Joinery
Level: Level 2 — National Vocational Qualification of Jamaica (NVQ-J)
This program prepares you to construct, install, and repair wooden structures, furniture, and fittings in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
🎯 What You’ll Learn
You’ll be trained in:
Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood
Using hand tools and power tools safely
Building furniture, doors, windows, and cabinets
Reading blueprints and construction drawings
Joining techniques (nails, screws, adhesives)
Wood finishing, sanding, and varnishing
Safety procedures and workplace ethics
🕒 Course Duration
Typically 6–12 months, depending on full-time or part-time schedules
🎓 Certification
You’ll earn a HEART/NCTVET Level 2 Certificate in Carpentry, recognized locally and across CARICOM.
Prepares you for employment as a carpenter or joinery assistant and to continue to Level 3 advanced carpentry programs.
